Drummer and percussionist Boyanna Trayanova has mastered the art of manipulating time with her bare hands, sculpting and shaping intricate grooves with precision and style. Born in Bulgaria and having grown up in New Orleans, LA, Trayanova’s artistic research hones in on the intersection of the two vastly disparate cultures.
Known for her stylistic range, Trayanova excels at switching seamlessly between musical genres, able to cover a wide spectrum of soundscapes such as jazz, zydeco, and doom metal, just to name a few. Trayanova has provided the backbeat for hundreds of New Orleans artists, international touring acts, as well as spearheaded various projects of her own.
Trayanova is featured in the Drumsville exhibit at the New Orleans Jazz Museum, as well as “The Evolution of the New Orleans Beat”, by Robert Cataliotti (LSU Press 2022).
